Hi, I live in California (Mojave Desert). I just bought an old flatbed trailer to haul my dirt bikes around. It's just the frame, no fenders or deck. I've been scouring the internet and the farthest I've gotten is this very small section on the DMV's web site: http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27600.htm ( V C Section 27600 Fenders and Mudguards). Now from what I can tell, if the trailer weighs less than 1500lbs empty, I don't need fenders. The registration states that it weighs 300lbs. Even loaded with 2 dirt bikes, it will still be well under the 1,500lb mark. However, every new or newish trailer I've seen this small still has fenders on it. The reason it's such a big deal is that fenders would be fairly difficult for me to make. I'm not too good with metal, and don't want to deal with wood fenders. Here are the rough trailer specs: year - mid-70's (newer than 1971) weight - 300lbs dimensions - 9ft deck length, about 13-14ft tongue to rear. About as wide as a pickup truck, wheels extend past the deck. (sorry, forgot the exact measurements, it's dark out now) Thanks!... Read More »
