I'm creating a desert garden in my yard. I live in Huntington Beach, CA, with a hardiness rating of 10b. I would like to set up a nice Mojave/Sonoran display. I plan to have 1 or 2 large trees or cacti in the center of the garden with many grasses/bushes/flowers filling in the surrounding areas. I love the looks of Joshua Trees and Saguaros, but I'm hesitant to grow these from seed (if even possible in my climate which is doubtful) due to the slow growth. Are there any similar-looking platns that I can purchase partially or fully grown, or that grow faster than a century? I'm looking at something now called a Schotii Mountain Yucca which looks nice. Additionally there is a local variant of Yucca that is extremely common in my neighborhood but I'm not sure what genus it is. What are recommendations for trees, cacti, bushes, grasses, and flowers for the ideal Mojave/Sonoran garden?... Read More »
